I feel more google-able...
Well I feel more google-able today... I noticed that the google page rank of my personal website went up to 1 (from 0) and the page rank of killianfamily.com went from 0 to 2.  In the grand scheme of things, this changes nothing, since if you were looking for me on the web, you would have been able to find me before... but never the less, google gives more "respect" to my website now.

Easy Life Furniture
I keep hearing an amusing ad on the radio...  It is for Easy Life Furniture, and the tag line for the ad goes like this:  "The only way to buy furniture for less is to import it yourself... and you don't know how!"

I think that is hilarious

Gettysburg!
It looks like I will be going back east to Gettysburg, PA next year for a civil war event!

Planning/preparations are underway now, but I got the "hall pass" from the wife to start planning the trip.   We'll have a 3 month old in tow, but it should be great!   I am really looking forward to reenacting in Gettysburg.  The events back east are easily 25 times bigger then even our large events in CA

You'll hear more about this as time goes on...

Very impressed
So my wife and I bought a Pentax Optio W30 before we went to Hawaii.  It was a waterproof camera, and we used it to take some awesome underwater shots in Hawaii.  Well about 3 weeks ago it started having a problem, and within a day or two, it wouldn't turn on.

*sad face*

I looked into the service warranty, and found I had a 1 year warranty, so I mailed it to Pentax with a letter saying it was broken.  I feared that it would take months to get back and they would try to get out of their warranty by some shady means.

Fast forward 2 weeks... I receive a package in the mail!  My camera!  It was fixed!  O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

In a span of two weeks, they receive, fix, and mail back my camera!

I am very impressed with Pentax service now.

Ultrasound technicians
So I didn't post it here, but I made the comment when I was telling my parents, that the ultrasound technician knew it was a boy in <30 seconds.  After the fact I thought to myself that that may have been an overstatement, and I wanted to find out how long it really did take.

Well going back to look at the video (I used our camera to record a bit of footage)... I found that the technician certainly knew in less than a minute.  Now for a frame of reference, my time starts when I started recording, but that is within moments of the machine turning on.

In retrospect (now knowing what to look for and viewing the video), at about 56 seconds I can tell that it is a boy.
But at 1 min 7 seconds there is a freeze frame zoomed in on my son's manhood with a cursor pointing at it.  That picture incidentally is one of the ones they gave us to take home with us :-P

So the ultrasound technician very well might have known in < 30 seconds but absolutely knew in < 1 min

Its a boy!
Well we had the 2nd ultrasound on Tuesday and we learned that my first born child will be a boy!

The ultrasound technician and doctor speak with such certainty when looking at the images, although if I wasn't told, I wouldn't know what I was looking at.  So now Holly and I get to start working at names.... at least we only have to pick 1 name, and not 2.

Needless to say Holly and I are pretty excited.  The doctor said everything was progressing normally, and all the tests that have been run have come back "clean"

So come late May/early April next year I will be the proud father of a baby boy!

Chris, Karen, and Owen safe
Well I heard last night that not only to Chris, Karen, and Owen (my cousins) continue to be safe, their apartment complex was one of the few things around their area that was spared.  They live near the Rancho Bernardo Area, and the witch creek fire burned much of that area around their place, but initial reports indicate that their complex was spared.  So although they can't go back yet, as of last night, they at least might have something to go back to.

Fire, Fire everywhere, and not a drop to drink
These fires are out of control!    My cousin, his wife, and their 2 week old son had just moved into their new apartment on Sunday, and were evacuated Monday morning.  They weren't even in their new place 24 hours.  They are okay, but no word on their apartment yet.

And, I don't have class this week for the same reason...  Which is good, even if the campus was open, I am not sure I could choke down 4 days worth of smoke... but I'll have to make up class sometime :-(

My prayers go out to all those who are affected by these fires.

Flying X-Wing
Wow!  This is a great story from Gizmodo

X-Wing

Andy Woerner and his crazy rocketeer friends have built a 21-foot long X-Wing model that can actually fly. Yes, this is a real X-Wing powered by four solid-fuel rocket engines complete with radio-controlled moving wings. It blasts off in California next week, and we talked with Andy about the project, and how they expect it will do. All the details and a full construction gallery here:http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/star-wars/rocket+powered-21+foot-long-x+wing-model-actually-flies-305976.php
